MONROE When the producers of Satin Ice Fondant needed a facility for a new food manufacturing facility in Orange County, which would create many new jobs, company officials turned to Verticon Ltd. of Monroe for general construction.
Satin is the leading commercial producer of rolled fondant in North America as well as Satin Ice products. Created by the companys owner, Kevin OReilly, fondant is a cake icing used by several shows, such as Cake Boss on TLC and Ace of Cakes on the Food Network.
Working with Marge LaPearl at the Orange County Partnership, Verticon was able to help Satin Fine Foods to find and rebuild a location to begin manufacturing as quickly as possible.
The 92,000-square-foot project located on Elkay Drive in Chester, New York, required Verticon selected design team to re-engineer the space to the very technical specifications needed for Satins food manufacturing facility for both cake icing and a bakery.
This was a complex project that required us to utilize our long history of working within the commercial food industry, said Irv Zuckerman said in the Verticon press release announcing the completion of the project. Providing Kevin and his team with the ability find the right location and building to fit his needs was part of our pre-construction service.
Tax credit, incentive rate
Satin Fine Foods CEO Kevin OReilly noted: Verticon was really instrumental in being able to help us assess the pros and cons of the buildings we reviewed against our for food manufacturing needs. It was great to tap into the deep expertise of Verticon for all the specialists we needed to re-engineer this building to our specifications. From start to finish, Verticon became our trusted advisor and were looking forward to working with them again.
Orange & Rockland Utilities Inc. has served the electric and gas needs of Satin Fine Foods and began working with Satin and with Verticon Ltd. in 2009 on Satins business expansion plans. Satin will receive an electric delivery discount over the next five years that will help with this needed expansion, according to Richard M. Struck, O&Rs director of economic development.
After securing an Empire Zone Tax Credit from New York State and the Economic Development Incentive Rate from O&R, Satin closed on the purchase of their new building in July 2011.
Satin will employ 20 people initially at this location; company officials hope to expand to 50 jobs.
