This 7 tiered Topsy Turvy cake was a blast to make, it took two of us four days to make and features well over fifteen thousand hand cut pieces of hand dyed colourful fondant. With three hand painted tier backgrounds and standing over a meter tall it was quite the challenge. It was created for the 40th Anniversary of Otonabee College at Trent University – their only requests were big, fun and colourful, the rest was up to us. Needless to say when cake decorators are given free rein we can get rather ambitious. The best assets we had at our disposal were our pasta machine and good old fashion ruler – without either of these tools we certainly would not of achieved such level fondant pieces or straight lines. We could not of been more pleased with how it turned out and the feedback from the University and all the event attendees was fantastic, well worth the lack of sleep!
