Catrina Ossmann Marketing LLC announces an upcoming workshop aimed at those who own or are considering a home-based food business.
The workshop, “Cottage Foods: How to Start a Successful Business,” will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. May 30 at the Lenawee County Library, 4459 W. U.S. 223, Adrian. It will be facilitated by the Michigan State University Extension-Hillsdale staff.

Those attending will find out what foods can be legally produced, labeled and sold. The workshop will combine the business and food safety aspects of preparing and selling cottage foods safely and successfully, according to a news release. Upon completion, workshop participants will receive a certificate to display when selling cottage foods.

Michigan’s Cottage Food Law, which took effect in July 2010, gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to sell certain homemade food products to the public.

The cost, $10 per person, is discounted from the usual $20 per person, thanks to sponsorship from the Friends of the Lenawee County Library. For walk-ins and those who do not register, the cost is $20 per person.
Seating is limited and registrations are required and can be made by contacting Catrina Ossmann at 442-4796 or via email at catrina.ossmann@gmail.com.
