A national cottage food law would apply nationwide and is not altered by regional, state or local laws; similar to certain work place and discrimination laws.
What the advantages and disadvantages would be of a national cottage food law are unclear at this time, however it would definitely provide citizens with an option to make local foods if they want to and earn extra income, no matter how small for their family.
A major issue today is unemployment places a heavy burden on many families and it is not so easy to work a minimum wage job and afford daycare. The cottage food industry allows women and men the opportunity to work from home, avoid costly daycare fees all while working from home, providing their communities with fresh, tasty, local baked goods or non-hazardous food products.
