Creating a beautiful, professional cake is not an easy process. However, local cake decorating classes offer a chance to learn the different steps in order to perfect your cake-making abilities.
Wendy Kromer, owner and operator of Wendy Kromer Confections and City Bake Shop in Sandusky, is hosting a series of cake-decorating classes in January. Wendy is well-known for her baking abilities and her work has appeared in Martha Stewart Weddings, Martha Stewart Living, the Martha Stewart television program, In Style Magazine, People Magazine, Oprah and others.
The “Lambeth” Method Class, being held on January 29-30, covers decorative border lessons and will provide an understanding of the methods taught by Joseph Lambeth in his book, The Lambeth Method of Cake Decoration and Practical Pastries.
The Lambeth Method is a popular style of cake decorating in which overpiping is used to create lacey, floral or ornate patterns on top of a fondant covered cake. This creates a 3D-like effect. Other embellishments can be added to the piping work, such as pearls, gems or flowers to give a cake that wow-factor. Typically, a cake decorated with this elaborate method is the cake of choice among brides and wedding planners.
