Jen – a.k.a. Macaron Stalker

How much do I love macarons?  I’m talking about the French macaron variety and not the coconut macaroon variety – though I do love both, macarons just speak to ; I’ve been fortunate enough to do a fair bit of travelling, here, there, everywhere. From “home” in the San Francisco Bay Area to Wokingham, Berkshire (UK), to various parts of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia… How lucky is that!?  But seriously, no matter where in the world I am, if there’s a macaron to be found, I’ll find it!   So I was recently in The Côte d'Azur –…

Cake Idea - Learn how a simple change in perspective or lighting can make your masterpiece come to life. A Postcard from Barbados – Sun, Sea, Fun AND DESSERT!

I know, I most people's island vacation/holiday snapshots are of sun, fun, sea, and sand; and don't get me wrong, we've had our fair share of all of that. The weather here in Barbados has been glorious, and I've been out "catamaran-ing," snorkelling, swimming with turtles, and of course, rum-tasting and generally having an awesome ; And that's even before I get to the part about food, and desserts, in particular! This isn't the first time I've been to Barbados, I must admit; I've been fortunate enough to visit this lovely island at least several times before, so I already…

The Famous Hummingbird Bakery, London: A Short & Sweet Visit

OK, not gonna Everyone had hyped it up so, so much that I was sadly underwhelmed by my first visit to Hummingbird Bakery in London's Soho a few years ; I must also admit that I've not had much success with a few of their recipes I've tried and tested at home and with ; (But we bakers are notoriously over-critical of other bakers' creations, no?)  So, no one was more surprised than me at what a FAB experience I had as I revisited the Hummingbird on Wardour Street recently.
